I want Sedation

Does the thought of going to the dentist make you come out in a cold sweat? Would you rather endure the pain of a toothache than to get your teeth checked at the dentist? You’re not alone in your fears. There are plenty of people who have a phobia of the dentist, and prefer not to go whether they need treatment or not.

We're Here to Help

We have a team of very caring staff here at The Dental House, many of whom have a special interest in treating anxious patients. We realise however, that this may not always be enough.

For extremely anxious patients, the answer could be sedation. Sedation dentistry can help to take away some of the anxiety that you might be feeling towards the dentist.

What is sedation?

Sedation dentistry is used to help combat the fear that a lot of people have over visiting the dentist. It can be used with the more invasive procedures like fillings and even simple procedures like teeth cleaning.

The severity of the fear will determine how sedation is used. There are a number of different techniques that your dentist can use to help relax you during your appointment or surgery.

Are there different levels of sedation?

Yes, there are different types of sedation available to you. Minimal sedation is where you are awake but relaxed. For moderate sedation you won’t remember much of the procedure. Deep sedation means you are on the edge of consciousness but can still be awakened. General anaesthesia is where you are completely unconscious.

How are you sedated by the dentist?

Here at The Dental House we offer IV Sedation, which falls on the moderate part of the sedation spectrum. This works quickly as the sedative drug is administered through a vein. The dentist can control the level of sedation with this method.

Who can have sedation at the dentist?

There can be plenty of different reasons people seek out sedation at the dentist, these can include phobias of dental procedures, bad experiences at the dentist previously, resistance to local anaesthetic, or a general anxiety disorder. Your dentist will always talk through the options available to you, as well as discussing your medical history to ensure sedation is right for you.
