academic clinical fellow
GDC Number – 250902
My job role is Academic Clinical Fellow. I have a scholarship with National Institute of Health Research.
My role is essentially linking research with General Dental Practice and I am based in the University of Liverpool alongside working at The Dental House.
I am what you would call an academic (or a bit of a geek), having studied Biochemistry, Dentistry, a certificate in Clinical Teaching and on my way to completing a Masters in Public Health. I am also a member of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, England and an active Fellow in the Higher Education Academy.
My clinical background has also been varied too, I have worked with special needs individuals and prison services in the north west and previously in training posts at the Maxillofacial Oral Surgery and Orthodontic departments in Hull and Scotland. I also work during out of hours for patients that need emergency dentists. I would say I enjoy building relationships with people, being compassionate and putting individuals first.
I am a representative for the Young Dentist Committee for the British Dental association which means I can get stuck into the local politics and future of Dentistry.
I love music especially in the nineties, I can also play a bit of guitar and frequently attend gigs. I grew up in Hull playing a lot of football although now a converted red. You might see me at Costa or Starbucks during most of my lunchbreaks and I’m a massive foodie!
